top class venue

i'm talking about the venue i fished on sunday the grand union at market harborough no dog sh#t ok a few bikes and the odd boat but in stan piecha's words a different class of bank walkers
access to the canal was great not too much walking
the canal had some colour in it some sections more than others
i drew peg 8 in the laybye and was told that the pegs to my right should beat me as 10 is on reeds 11,12,13,14 ar all in a turning bay and with very little wind it looked spot on

my peg was on the straight with tins either side no features just a straight bit of canal

i started on breadpunch and caught straight away the anglers to my right had netted odd fish
so after two hours i made a couple of phone calls just to see how it was fishing as i could catch these's small roach quiet quick team mate gary smith said he was catching big roach on caster

down the track and gaz was on peg ten so i thought the others must be catching in the turning bay :-/ :-/i then spoke to mark eustace and he had caught on caster a big perch and had lost a bream plus caught a few hand size skimmers

after that i started to set a couple of caster traps down my peg at 13 metres

the problem with this is the two don't really mix as breadpunch fishing has to be spot on and i noticed everytime i went back on the punch after giving caster a go it would get slower yet the fish were still there
at the end of the match the caster line had only given me two roach not a bad stamp but i could easily of caught that weight sticking to the breadpunch

as i was on the scales i could have a good look at the pegs all 20 of them

it had fish bad in the good pegs and then it was gaz smith to weigh in as he pulled hisnet out the quality of his fish was superb i would say 25 roach for 9lb 3oz :o

next to gary was gordon peberdy and at 71 has lost none of his watercraft and weighed 5lb 7oz of skimmers
and with me last to weigh in i put 4lb of roach on the scales

kicking myself for not just sticking to the breadpunch
result at the end was
1ST RICHIE REYNOLDS QUORN 10LBS 8OZ with two late tench in the last quarter of the match
2 GARY SMITH LEICESTER SENSAS 9LBS 3OZ
3RD MARK ROBERTS WIGSTON 6LBS 5OZ
4TH MARK EUSTACE LEICESTER SENSAS 6LB 3OZ
5TH JIM SHOOTER 5LB 8OZ
6TH GORDON PEBERDY WREAKE AC 5LB 7OZ
7TH JOINT WAS JOFFMIESTER BOB GREENBURY AND ROB PERKINS WITH 4LB

IF ONLY I HAD STUCK TO THE PUNCH

That does look like a proper bit of cut Joff, bet it looks Ace in the Summer also........Dont know if us Black country tow path teds should go there and spoil [it

specially if there is high class bank walkers afoot ::) ::) But if we tell them we know the QUEEN

we might be allright .......................LOL

Yes mate, odviously she was on end peg but beat me 7lb odd to 5lb 10oz
