right i've been down to look at the canal [in a blizzard i must say] outside the pub where the the swans and ducks have congregated there is no ice for two pegs then it looks to be about 1 to 2 inches but the amount of rubbish on top is a disgrace but out in the country it must be 5in as you can see footprints on top [must be mad ]
so if i was to run a match on the canal this weekend perhaps get 20 there what happens if half can't break the ice and fish [bye the way i'm not running a match]
because i can see this happening up and down the country some areas the ice will be thinner than others and if its a team match what happens to the anglers that can't break the ice we are all fed-up with the weather but i can't see it being any better this weekend
i'm hopping its off this week bill won't know until tomorrow but i guarantee most will not be able to break the ice and i can't stand it when anglers say make it a three hour match so it gives you more time to break the ice and if you do break your ice do you feel obliged to help the angler next to you if he asks you too
Now wonder us lot at Leicester sensas are struggling....
All the capain wants to do is talk his blokes into not fishing
just want you boys to enjoy your fishing the phone calls are boring when you don't catch anything
did you go out did you catch choppie was another flyer nothing changes you should of seen the ice lets get back to real fishing you sad lot
most will go to there pegs break the ice catch what small amount of feeding fish there is in there pegs and go home racked off , then there will be a few that go to there pegs break the ice and sit on a great big shoal of roach and proceed to catch them no matter how poorly they present it then go home realising they are now a superstar arange to do a feature in a mag and start coaching what they consider to be lesser anglers

who got it right then ::) ::) ::) soar in full flood canal had thawed but only a couple of areas fished saturday lee morley on the erwash 6 fish were caught in his section and he had 5 of them and still didn't win the section dave clayton was second in the match with 5lb
Well 12lb odd won at March with a few pockets of fish but very patchy. In fairness this was due to the extra water and it was running off, so slack or steady water was the order of the day. Myself and Danny drew good pegs on the parade but it was trammin !! so it was a case of right pegs wrong day !
But where is it not peggy this time of year !
You know the drill, keep going, play the percentages and eventually you will draw on a few !
I am afraid that the more I think about fishing matches in winter, in these conditions the more I think I need my head examining.
I have not been enjoying the last few weeks and have been thinking that instead of going why don't I do something else and save my money for a trip to Ireland, fish a festival and have the craic !!
In answer to your question mate are you talking about the forth coming winter league at Wigston ?
If so I would like to draw on the wides at Countersthorpe or left of Kilby Bridge.
There are a few bream in area's that WILL feed and will be caught ! with odd ones to 4lb !
The roach fishing should be ok, but shelterd area,s are always favoured.
A few perch will show and thats about it.
Punch is King on this venue with a few worms and casters, end of.
