chub are brilliant on canals you still have to get them out it attracts lesser anglers to fish for them
roach shoal up
skimmers shoal up
perch ball up yes they move but normally in groups
whats the differents
chub pegs don't win every match on our canal
i love them Image Image Image

Fished the last semi on the Loughborough (am i the only person on here that actually likes this canal other than Mr Arkwright?) and remember one angler on a rock-hard practice day at Pillings (where hundreds of eyeball sh1ts were the only thing feeding) hooked what he thought was a bloomin great chub on a proper rig. It wouldve been worth 200+ skerrits so imagine what he said when a trout popped its head up! Image

Last semi on there it blew a hooly and i bust my pole plumbing up; think i ended up 4th in match with 5lb of mostly gudgeon. Dont think i saw a gudgeon in practice! Used to fish the Fur & Feather on there and always won a turkey or bottle. Lost the biggest ever roach Ive hooked at the net on the factory wall section too. Drew one of the mega 50+ peg walks (halfway between Pillings and Scrapyard) and lightened off my load to avoid a heart attack. Got to my peg and had a bush I couldnt reach as id took my extra extension out the rod bag to save weight! Still hooked a chub 1m off it which broke me and cost me the section. Think Rocco won it with a chub. Only thing I didnt like about the last semi on there was we were fishing the official practices on a Sunday and finding out teams were having line-ups on the same pegs the day before. Thats what 'flattened' it!

Joff...

run all the practice matches in the town then have the semi where your lads know it.

Yep, it was quite good actually. If I recall one of Ropa's Quaker boys won it on the day. Practices started great then it got seriously peggy up to the day. You could actually see the roach topping wherever there was a gap in the pegging or a peg not drawn! I'm still surprised how fast the venue recovered after that much pressure.

That year it was scheduled to go ahead on the Dams and Locks controlled water on the Birmingham/Fazely Canal, but practising anglers refused to pay day ticket money and were abusive to a bailff, so they refused to let the A/T have the water
