It's Tidal Joff, but there was a bit of colour in there, We never seem to catch it right for the winter league round. Either it's pi**ing through or it's gin clear and cold.Hopefully it could be ok this weekend?
There are loads of dace in there, some you can hardly swing!! When its 'cock on' 30lb of dace is possible.

5th Rich Chave Garbolino BVMG 13.3.0, 52 Roach and 1 Dace from peg A5 at Parley caught on Punch on a 3gm bolo and caster and Bronze maggot on the Stick

6th Steve Nadin SPRO Dorset Raiders 11.0.8 about 15 Roach from peg F? Pony Fields Crowquill and Maggot

I was drawn on A5 at Parley, the only section that wasn’t tidal, This was a Critical match as we had slipped up a little by coming 3rd on the last round and this is normally SPRO Raiders’s Banker round, having won it every year as long as I can remember, so if they beat us today it would be all square going into the last round!
We had a good turn out at last weeks Stour Champs and had 5 practice on Wednesday, but the weather was colder than the previous week and the nice colour in the water from the previous week had gone, it wasn’t gin clear, but had a tinge, so with this in mind and drawing where I did at Parley I based my attack on the running line and bread Punch. With casters and maggots as a back up.
I set up :
· -17ft Map Ultra 11, rod, Daiwa 1657dm reel, 0.14 Colmic fendreel line -0.12 garbo line-14 Katsuchi SP110 hook 3grm Garbolino Bolo float- for fishing bread

· 12ft MAP Ultra11 Feeder rod, Team Daiwa Advantage 3500 reel 4lb Berkley Trilene – 0.12 Garbo line – 14 katsuchi SP110 hook and a small cage feeder for liquidized bread ( Never had a bite on this)

15ft Normark Titan 2000 rod Daiwa 1657dm reel 0.14mm colmic fendreel line 0.10 garbo line – 18 Drennan Super Carbon Maggot hook , 3bb+ John Allerton mk3 alloy stick, for casters and Maggots

I started on the 17 ft rod and the bolo float with a 9mm punch bread hookbait in about 8-9ft of water about 3 rod lengths out on the crease second run down I had a 10oz roach and in the first ½ an hour I had 10 in total for about 3-4lb at the time I thought that 20lb+ could be on the cards but typically it slowed, and I only had 5 in the next ½ an hour, but most were netters or ‘shouldn’t have swung that ers’ All the time I had been dropping a bit of Ground bait ( brown and white crumb VDE roach and Liquidized bread) onto the line after every couple of run downs
After an hour it turned off and I dropped to a 16 and a 0.10 hooklenght and fished double maggot but caught nothing so put on a 7mm punch and just picked up very occasional fish. A change to the cage feeder during this period failed to get a bite so it was chucked up the bank. I had been loosefeeding a bit of hemp up to this point as well as the groundbait, but I started to introduce casters as well and then a swap to the stickfloat got me bites, and I ended up with 52 roach and a dace. The weights in my section went: A6 2.4.0 A5 13.3.0. A4 4.2.0. A3 DNW A2 0.1.0 and A1 0.2.0 So I was happy with my day

Results for the 6th and final round of the Hants wilts and Dorset winter league fished today 14/12/08 on Withrington Farm Fishery Snake lake due to the original venue the Upper Dorset Stour at Sturminster Newton being Flooded

1st Pete Newman Eastleigh 186.2.0!!! Carp Caught on Bread flake on the drop/half depth on the far bank

2nd Nick McCartney Andover 58.7.0 Carp caught across on Maggot

3rd Gary Wright TVAC 56.12.0 Carp caught on Maggot from the far side and the middle

4th James Knight Garbolino BVMG 42.4.0 Carp Caught on corn and Pellet across

5th Dave Hydes Andover 40.11.0 Carp caught on Maggot from across

6th Gary Naylor 40.5.0 Carp on Bread punch and maggot far bank and middle

We fished the river on the Wednesday and all caught and it was just a little over normal height, just coming down from the previous weekends rain. But Torrential rain on Thursday night and Friday morning put it well across the fields again. So it was switched to Withrington Farm on the Saturday.
I was drawn on F1 on peg 46 on the outer snake, when I got to my peg the odd fish were topping all along my bank I set up :

· 2x 0.2g Garbolino DC 6 floats on 0.14 –0.12- 18 Gamakatsu Pellet hook both rigs for across at 14.5M and both with Grey Hydro on a pull bung

· 1x 4x12 Garbolino DC11 on 0.12- 0.10 – 20 Gamakatsu allround for 13m and 7m (same depth) with white hydro on a pull bung

· 1x 0.15g MW margin on 0.14 straight through to a 16 colmic 501 for the inside

I started on the 0.2g float across with a single grain of corn and without feeding had 2 carp about 1 ½ lb each on the first 2 drop ins. I then fed a little bit of dampened micro pellet through a tosspot and had another. But then sat carpless. So I fed the other lines and dropped in at 13m were I had skimmers roach and the odd small carp. It was a case of dropping onto the far bank every now and again and looking for the odd carp. When they were there, the float would not stay still, and this was followed by a positive sail away but I was sitting for longer periods without any movement, the wind had dropped on the pegs at my end of the lake but there was a slight ripple on the pegs to my left and they all continued catching. And that was the pattern for the day. I was first to weight and had 30lb 8oz the guy next had 36lb then 40lb, 56lb, 40lb and then 26lb so I only beat him. To my left the section was won with 15lb, so I was drawn at the wrong end, although, 3 lost good sized fish could have put me 2nd, but everyone lost fish, so its easy to say that.

Teams on the day:
1st Eastleigh 43 ½
2nd Andover 37 ½
3rd Garbolino BVMG 35
4th TVAC 34
5th Salisbury 31
6th SPRO Dorset Raiders 28

League :
1st Garbolino BVMG 10
2nd SPRO Dorset Raiders 16
3rd Mosella Eastleigh 19
4th Andover 22
5th Salisbury 31
6th TVAC 28

So Garbolino BVMG and SPRO Dorset Raiders are off to the Semi on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Bathampton.
